Even though No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young has not yet earned the role as the Carolina Panthers starting quarterback over veteran Andy Dalton, it still sounds like he’s definitely impressing his coaches during practice.
During his press conference on Monday morning, Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich said that Bryce Young’s accuracy was “10 out of 10” and had some high praise for the young quarterback.
“Just complete command, control, poise,” Reich said according to Pro Football Talk. “You could tell the way he was seeing it, the way he was working through progressions, accuracy in the throw, ball placement of the throw, it was all very good.”
Even though Young has been taking the majority of the first-team reps during organized team activities to help him acclimate to the NFL game, Dalton remains the starter. And it sounds like Reich is standing by that decision.
“It’s really good for Bryce to kind of see Andy handle things the way he’s handled things,” Reich said. “And, obviously, Bryce has picked it up extremely fast. But it feels like we’ve got a good plan and we’re doing the right thing.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how long Young stays behind Dalton on the depth chart.
