The Tampa Bay Buccaneers know that when fully healthy, they have one of the best offenses in the NFL. The connection between quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Tom Brady has proven to be every bit lethal enough to put the Buccaneers in a position to beat any team they come across.
However, Mayfield still needs time to deliver the ball to Evans, which is what makes star offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs such a key cog in the machine. Unfortunately, Wirfs was forced to undergo a recent surgery to address a lingering knee injury from last season.
Now, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles is addressing the way things played out with Wirfs and the decision to have surgery so close to the beginning of training camp.
“It didn’t heal. It had to be done. This is not a murder mystery where we need to find out what happened. It’s about him getting better. He’s in great spirits,” Bowles said.
Fans reacted to the statement on social media.
“Next big idea in reality TV is a murder mystery party with random NFL players, one by one they get injured until the guilty party is found,” one fan joked on Twitter.
“Not everyone is rushing to have surgery, especially at his young age. He wanted to see how it would heal first, it didn’t progress the way he wanted and decided on surgery. Wirfs has to make sure he’ll be good in the long run, not just for football,” someone else added.
“honestly it could have had better timing but it also could have had worse … hell he could have gone down in training camp for the season, if it wasn’t taken care of when it was,” one fan added.
Hopefully, Wirfs is back to his usual dominant self when he makes his return.
