After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won Super Bowl LV, Tom Brady was seen partying hard at the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl victory boat parade, being propped up by backup quarterback Ryan Griffin, leading to some calling him “the world’s greatest party wingman.”

Alas, the party is over as the Buccaneers have cut Griffin as they trim down their roster before the 2022 NFL season.

Griffin was part of larger cuts that include linebacker Genard Avery, safety Nolan Turner, kicker Jose Borregales, and defensive lineman Benning Potoa’e.

The Tulane product’s time with Tampa Bay predates Brady’s arrival. He signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft but was claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers in 2015, seeing limited action. He was initially released by the Buccaneers in 2021 but re-signed to the practice squad the next day, eventually returning in 2022 as well. That might be the case this time around as well.

It appears that Tampa will go with Kyle Trask and Blaine Gabbert as their backups, presumably with Griffin on the practice squad given how well he knows the system. Not to mention that, if they do win another Super Bowl, Tom is going to want his wingman around to make sure he stays upright.
