When the Buffalo Bills open their season on Monday night with a showdown against the New York Jets, it could have been the triumphant return of safety Damar Hamlin after he went into cardiac arrest on the field during a game last year and needed life-saving CPR. But it seems that the storybook return to the field will have to wait at least another week.
According to league insider Mike Garafolo of The NFL Network, the Buffalo Bills are not expected to make safety Damar Hamlin active for Monday night’s game against the New York Jets as he will be a healthy scratch for the game.
“#Bills S Damar Hamlin is expected to be inactive tonight vs. the #Jets in a numbers crunch in the defensive backfield, sources say. Hamlin will be a healthy inactive and could be back on the playing field for Buffalo in the coming weeks,” Garafolo said in a post on X on Monday.
“Cam Lewis is a versatile defensive back and special teamer for the #Bills, so he’s expected to get the nod over Hamlin tonight vs. the #Jets,” Garapolo said in a follow-up post.
It seems likely that Hamlin will indeed make his return to the NFL this season for the Bills, but it won’t be on Monday.
