Buffalo Bills star wide receiver Stefon Diggs would be expected to play a pivotal role this season if the team is to win the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
Diggs has missed large swaths of Organized Team Activities. Last week, Bills coach Sean McDermott said he was “very concerned” about Diggs’ absence before saying there was “great communication” between the Bills and their disgruntled star, who was taking an “excused absence from the team.”
According to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe, an NFL source “close to the Bills’ locker room” says Diggs’ frustration is with “his role in the offense and his voice in play-calling.”
Diggs returned to the field last Wednesday, and McDermott spoke of the need to involve Diggs more in the offense if the Bills are to achieve their championship goals.
“Listen, getting Stef the ball is an important part of our offense. There’s no reason to say it isn’t,” McDermott said, according to The Globe. “He’s a big focal point of our offense, in addition to Josh. And so you know, it’s important to get him going, and the more production he has, the more production we have as an offense.”
With expectations clearly set, Diggs’ role within the offense will certainly be a storyline to watch throughout the season.
