C.J. Stroud Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans have come away with a playoff win in each of young quarterback C.J. Stroud’s first two seasons in the NFL. However, Stroud and the Texans have yet to have the sort of sustained playoff run they’re looking for and get over the jump.

Per the Houston Chronicle, Stroud is looking to take more ownership of the offense heading into his third season in the league, and it’s looking like he’s going to get his wish.

“I’m gonna get what I want and that’s been really cool just to see that (Caley has) bought into me and he doesn’t really know me well yet,” Stroud said Monday in his first public comments since the hiring of news offensive coordinator Nick Caley. “He talked about it today, having blind trust, and I have a lot of trust in him already.”

Stroud will be playing under a new offensive coordinator, but he said the roots of the new system he’s already familiar with.

“I’ll be able to just get better and learn from what he did with New England and LA, which will definitely help me because those are two schemes that I’m kind of used to in a sense,” Stroud said. “So I’ll be able to put my swag on it and have fun with it.”

Stroud’s quarterback coach, Jerrod Johnson, will also be assuming more responsibility within the team’s offense.

“He’s gonna give him a lot more responsibility, which I think Jerrod is due for, and I think he’s gonna do great with it,” Stroud said. “I tell him, man, he’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever worked with.

“Just the way he thinks, the way he operates, the fact that he played, and really just the human being that he is. I’m excited to see him elevated as a coach and to be more hands on. It’s gonna be amazing.”

It’ll be interesting to see if this is the season the Texans put it all together and make a deep run.
