The Chicago Bears’ 2024 season was a disaster. Things got so ugly in Chiacgo last season that the Bears relieved head coach Matt Eberflus of his duties in the middle of the season, the first time the franchise has ever fired a head coach mid-season.

Now, the Bears have former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson in as head coach, and they’re hoping that he can unlock the potential in young quarterback Caleb Williams that Ebeflus was unable to.

Johnson is going to have to because Williams can’t expect to get much help from his peers around the league after some recent comments that he made.

“I think the NFL game has become very friendly, and I don’t necessarily want to be friends, because I want to keep that competitive advantage,” Williams said, per Pro Football Talk.

Fans reacted to Williams’ message on social media.

“Before anyone complains.. Lamar is the same way. He has said repeatedly that he respects the other players and wishes them all the best but he isn’t friends with any of them,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Love this, this is the mentality that’s missing. TB wasn’t friends with other QB’s until he retired. Plenty of time to be friends after retirement,” another fan added.

“Someone needs to explain to him that he doesn’t compete against other QBs he competes against the defense,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Williams has painted a target on himself with his latest comments.
