The Dallas Cowboys have moved on from the Mike McCarthy era. After McCarthy and the franchise couldn’t agree to terms, Dallas promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the role.

Schottenheimer has brought in former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus to be the team’s new defensive coordinator. Unfortunately, one of Eberflus’s former players is painting a pretty bleak picture of what things were like under Eberflus’s leadership.

“How [Eberflus] handled it at that time, for that game, was, I think, one of the things that throughout the locker room people talked about and were annoyed by,” Bears quarterback Caleb Williams said of Chicago’s Hail Mary loss to the Washington Commanders, via the Chicago Sun-Times.

Williams revealed that he even cried in bed.

“When I got home, I got in my bed, I just dropped a few tears,” Williams said.

“I think those losses were pretty important for me and my growth,” Williams told the magazine. “To go on a losing streak, to be in this position and be at the helm of it, was definitely important for me. Just being able to see how I need to be when times are bad. . . .

“I’m going to work my tail off to never be in that situation again.”

Fans reacted to Williams’ revelation on social media.

“It’s hard enough to win in the NFL and especially on the road. A minimally competent HQ would have 1) Not given up the free play to set up the Hail Mary. 2) Call a TO before HM to set your D. 2 key mistakes are simply inexcusable and he frankly should have been dismissed then,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Does anyone find it interesting that none of these things happened with Eberflus until Justin left and Caleb took over?” someone else added.

“And how those screwup Bears players lost a game like that probably annoyed Eberflus, and everyone else,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how Eberflus has learned from his experience in Chicago.
