The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been regulars in the NFL players under new franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield, who had the tall task of stepping into the shoes of Tom Brady following the legend’s retirement.

However, Tampa Bay’s success hasn’t been due to Mayfield alone. The Buccaneers have done a good job of filling out the roster with stars on both sides of the ball, and one of those players feels that if he can stay healthy, he can be the best in the league at his position.

“It was more so me making sure that I am ready when the beginning of the season comes and not missing those five games that I did the first two seasons,” Kancey said of the importance of staying healthy this season, via the Bucs’ official team website.

“Really, just making sure that I am doing everything to not miss those games but also help the team to dominate at a high level.”

Kancey has taken a true professional’s approach to the game, remembering details from plays in a way eeiry reminiscent of NBA superstar LeBron James.

“I have a play right now in my head where I missed a tackle,” stated Kancey. “It was the Raiders game…I was the off-ball linebacker, but I was lined up in the A-gap, and I was going to drop into coverage, but it ended up being a draw.

“I took the easy way out and went under instead of over and then the guy ran by and he out-ran me. That’s a missed tackle.” Kancey knows that, given his health, he can be among the league’s leaders in one of the most important stats. “I think you would be looking at the sack leader.”

If Kancey can stay healthy this season, there’s no reason the Bucs can’t have both a stifling defense and a high-flying offense.
