The Tennessee Titans selection of Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night marks a time of new beginnings for the organization. And on Friday, the organization showed how important they feel Ward will be in returning the team back to their former glory.
The number one has always been significant to Ward, who has donned the No. 1 jersey over the course of his collegiate career at Washington State and Miami.
This created a rather tricky situation for the Titans considering the No. 1 jersey has been retired for quite some time in honor of the great Warren Moon, who is perhaps the greatest player to ever represent the organization when they were previously the Houston Oilers.
Luckily, it seems that Warren Moon is fully sold on the selection of Cam Ward, a fact that was made incredibly apparent at Ward’s first press conference as a member of the Titans on Friday.
Prior to Ward taking the podium to speak with reporters, he was greeted by Warren Moon, who had a No. 1 jersey in hand to present to Ward and was ready to give Ward his blessing to unretire the number so that he too could wear the jersey number.

It’s obviously an incredible honor for Ward to be given the okay to wear the No. 1 jersey by a true legend of the game like Moon. But with that perhaps come pressure for Ward to live up to the kind of impact that Moon had on the organization.
Only time will tell whether Ward becomes even half the player that Moon was for the Titans organization. But ultimately, Titans fans have got to be excited by the fact that a legend like Warren Moon is at least in favor of Ward being the new leader of the team heading into the 2025 NFL season.
