The Arizona Cardinals squared off with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. The Cardinals played veteran Jacoby Brissett in the game, as the usual starting quarterback, Kyler Murray, remained sidelined by a lingering foot injury.
Shockingly, Brissett was very impressive in leading the Cardinals to a 27-17 win on the run, and he also managed to unlock wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Now, the Cardinals have made the decision to stick with Brissett, according to one prominent insider around the league.
“QB news in Arizona: Cardinals are sticking with QB Jacoby Brissett as their starter for Sunday’s game in Seattle,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday.
The move to Brissett makes even more sense after taking into account some of Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio’s reporting.
That said, an offseason trade is very realistic. If not likely. The current regime did not draft him. The current regime did not sign him to a second contract. The current regime has yet to be able to pick its own quarterback,” Florio wrote.
“And with the current regime staring at three years of not making it to the postseason, one way to successful finagle a fourth season will be to lobby ownership for the ability to draft, to sign, or to trade for a new starter.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“The current owner loves him for some reason, thats why everyone gets fired except KM,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“New regime, new quarterback? This could be a turning point for Arizona,” someone else added.
“He definitely hasn’t played great this year but he is far from the problem in Arizona,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see what potential suitors the Cardinals have.
