Carolina Panthers Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Panthers received some devastating injury news on Friday.

Emerging defensive back Donte Jackson tore his Achilles in Carolina’s 25-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons. As a result, Thursday night’s win for the Panthers comes with a heavy price. Jackson is now out for the remainder of the 2022 season.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted, “Panthers standout CB Donte Jackson has torn his Achilles, source said following the MRI. A tough end to 2022 for Jackson.”

Jackson had played very well up until suffering the injury. He started all nine games for the Panthers this season. He recorded two interceptions, one touchdown, three passes defended, and 35 combined tackles. This came after a season in which the former LSU cornerback had two interceptions, 10 passes defended, one forced fumble, and 61 combined tackles.

If you find any positive, it’s that Jackson is still going to be on the team next year. Jackson is signed through 2024 and is set to make a base of $4.7 million in 2023.

It was a big night for Carolina on Thursday. Unfortunately, the lowly Panthers will now be without a key contributor for the rest of the way. The team is in flux right now, having traded star Christian McCaffrey earlier in the year, and fired head coach Matt Rhule.
