As part of their schedule release video, the Chargers had a lot of fun at the expense of the Lions, their Week 10 opponent. Tuesday marked the official release of the 2023 NFL schedule. That’s long been a big day for the social media team of the Los Angeles Chargers, who often comes up with creative videos to showcase their upcoming schedule. This year was no different.

Los Angeles will host the Detroit Lions on November 12 for a Week 10 game. While both teams have reasonably high expectations coming into the season, this doesn’t seem like an intense matchup. At least not on the surface. The two franchises don’t have much of a history. They play in opposite conferences and have never met in a Super Bowl, or anything close to it.

One might assume that the Chargers would save their sharpest, most creative videos for their biggest rivals. Those teams were certainly not spared. But the Chargers took the gloves off when talking about the Detroit game.

In April, four Lions were suspended by the NFL for violations of the league’s gambling policy. So, in announcing the game against Detroit, Los Angeles used a graphic that included various phone numbers and websites that a person with a gambling problem might use.

If the goal when releasing a video like this is to get people talking, mission accomplished for the Chargers.

This post drew a wide variety of reactions.
