The Los Angeles Chargers ended their season in an embarrassing fashion. The Chargers were upset by young quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in the first round in what was arguably the worst game of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert’s career.
Herbert threw four interceptions in the 32-12 loss, which the Chargers were favored to win. Now, it appears the Chargers are looking for some insurance should Herbert continue to struggle when it matters most.
“ESPN sources: former Cowboys and 49ers QB Trey Lance reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $6.2 million with the Los Angeles Chargers. Lance and Taylor Heinicke are now behind starting QB Justin Herbert,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter figures to replace Easton Stick on the Chargers’ depth chart. Fans reacted to the deal on social media.
“Kaepernick 2.0? The knock on Kap coming out of Nevada was a gimmicky offense (The Pistol – Spread) and more of a runner than passer. If anyone can coach up a raw athlete at QB it’s Harbaugh (either one),” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“He’s worth it if given the chance and developed. He’s had neither so far in the NFL,” one fan added.
“Not a bad move for the Chargers. Was once highly-regarded and the Chargers didn’t pay YUGE money for him,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Lance gets the chance to take the field during the regular season.
