Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker found himself in some hot water after making disparaging remarks about the LBGTQ community and women in a commencement speech.

Butker wants the country to go back in time when women knew their place and gays stayed in the closet. Butker made those remarks to Benedictine College.

He started his speech by talking about women being homemakers instead of having careers.

“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and a mother. I’m on this stage and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation,” he said.

“I’m beyond blessed with the many talents god has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”

But that was just the beginning.

He also told the men in the audience to “be unapologetic in your masculinity, fighting against the cultural emasculation of men.”

Then he targeted the LBGTQ community who will be celebrating Pride Month in June by saying, “the deadly sin sort of pride.” In addition, he spoke about what he called “dangerous gender ideologies.”

Oh, and he managed to throw in a quote from a Taylor Swift song as well to make a point about leadership and attacking reproductive rights.

“While COVID might’ve played a large role throughout your formative years, it is not unique,” he told the graduating class at one point. “Bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder,” he said.

To say this was not a good look for either him or the Chiefs organization would be an understatement. When Chiefs fans got a hold of his speech, many of them were unhappy and were embarrassed by what he had to say.

You know Travis Kelce and girlfriend Taylor Swift won’t be happy either if they are drawn into this conversation, especially given Swift and Kelce’s liberal stances on the subjects that were mentioned.

Swift has strong support and following from the LBGTQ community, and Kelce has made commercials about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

Most are probably asking, what was Butker thinking? He has a right to his beliefs, but to offend everyone in sight is not a good look for him or the Chiefs.

Butker is also not thinking about his career. He’s not Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce, so he is expendable. The Chiefs can cut him tomorrow from the team and he probably won’t be missed.

So far, there haven’t been any comments from Butker or the Chiefs, but you better believe that before the day is over, he will either offer an apology or be cut by the team. Either way, this won’t end well for him.
