Since coming over from Green Bay, Marquez Valdes-Scantling hasn’t exactly looked like a wide receiver who was in an offense that saw Aaron Rodgers win back-to-back MVPs. In fact, MVS, who has been a 50-50 possession receiver since coming out of the University of South Florida, has seen his production fall off a steep cliff.
Valdes-Scantling was an invaluable member of a Cheifs team that won a Super Bowl last year, hauling in 42 receptions for 687 yards with two touchdowns. However, the 29-year-old’s second season in Kansas City has been plagued by drops, with the latest coming at the most inopportune time.
In Monday night’s 21-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Valdes-Scantling had what would be the go-ahead touchdown hit him right in the hands, only to drop a perfectly thrown pass, which would have likely given Kansas City a 3-point lead with just under two minutes remaining.

There were videos on social media that surfaced shortly afterward, as Valdes-Scantling let out his frustration in the bowels of Arrowhead Stadium.

After cooling off, MVS addressed the drop and the subsequent criticism he’s received on social media.
“I’m grateful, I’ll be better. And I appreciate the criticism and the support. God put this on me because he knew I could handle it. Gratitude for everything that comes with it,” Valdes-Scantling wrote on Twitter/X.
The Chiefs will need Valdes-Scantling, among others, to be better moving forward, as Kansas City desperately needs more from its wide receiver position.
