The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the best NFL teams of the past decade, thanks in part to how great quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been.

That being said, having depth on the roster is important to every team and the Chiefs have made a move to shore up their quarterback depth by bringing back a familiar face to the roster.

Kansas City has reportedly signed quarterback Anthony Gordon, according to agent Steve Caric.

Gordon spent the last offseason on the Chiefs roster before being moved to the team’s practice squad where he spent time throughout the 2021 season.

He is best known for his sophomore year in college at Washington State, where he threw for a whopping 5,579 yards and 48 touchdowns in 2019. This was one of the more underrated seasons in recent college football memory. Gordon broke into the top 10 in college football history for single-season passing yards and passing touchdowns with his 2019 campaign.

Despite his impressive lone year as a starter in college, he went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft. Gordon has yet to play yet in the NFL and it remains unlikely he’ll do so unless a number of quarterbacks go down to injury in Kansas City.

The Chiefs signing Gordon likely means that they will bring four quarterbacks into training camp this fall. Many pointed out that it also likely means that they will not select a quarterback in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

While this isn’t a splash move by the Chiefs and it likely won’t play much of a factor in the team’s success in 2022, it is still good to see a young player getting another chance on an NFL roster next season.
