The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a brutal defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. However, as long as the Chiefs have star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they know there’s nothing stopping them from getting back to the Super Bowl to avenge their loss.
However, as good as Mahomes is, he can’t play defense. It would appear that the Chiefs are well aware of this, as they have reevaluated their contracts with one of the key pieces to their defense, and decided to extend him beyond the original contract he signed with the franchise, according to one prominent league insider.
“Chiefs and 2022 first-round pick George Karlaftis reached agreement today on a four-year $93 million contract extension that includes $62 million guaranteed, per his agency the (WIN Sports Group). Karlaftis posted 24.5 sacks during his first three seasons in Kansas City – and now will continue as a focal point of the Chiefs’ defense,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Twitter.

“Very smart pay day by Brett Veach, he’s exceeded all expectations and has been the perfect edge next to Chris Jones. Couldn’t ask for anything more from him,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Good for George! He got hot in the playoffs and they’re betting that he’s going to continue to ascend. Not a bad move IMO,” someone else added.
“Everyone saying overpay but I think it’s a steal tbh,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Karlaftis lives up to the extension.
