The Cincinnati Bengals are on a two-year hiatus from the playoffs. It’s been frustrating for Bengals fans, considering they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Joe Burrow on the roster.
A big part of the Bengals’ problems has been slow starts to the regular season. Now, it appears that head coach Zac Taylor is looking to do whatever it takes to avoid another slow start, even if it means putting his star quarterback in harm’s way.
“Bengals coach Zac Taylor tells reporters that QB Joe Burrow and other big name players will play several series on Thursday night and more in game two against the #Commanders. New way of doing it, with eyes on starting fast,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“I get it. Cincy started slowly last year. But a number of teams sit their starters most of the preseason, and they all don’t suffer from slow starts. Is this just introducing an unnecessary injury risk?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Good change. Bengals like to start off so slow to the season,” another fan added.
“As a Ravens fan, give Zac Taylor a lifetime contract. This guy is a football genius,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the bold strategy pays off for Cincinnati.
