Over the past few years, the NFL’s roughing the passer penalty has become one of the most controversial calls in the game with several high-profile decisions igniting quite a heated debate about how the penalty is enforced. And one former NFL pass-rushing great has a way to fix it – allow him to make all the decisions on the penalty.

Longtime Green Bay Packers great Clay Matthews knows a thing or two about rushing the quarterback and has undoubtedly been flagged for his fair share of roughing the passer penalties throughout his 11-year NFL career. And since he’s become quite an expert on the call throughout the years, he thinks that the NFL should allow him to make the decisions on the penalties.

“I’d like to be employed by the NFL as THE replay official for all roughing the passer penalties. Put me in NY. I wouldn’t get a call wrong! @nflcommish,” Matthews said in a Tweet.

While Clay Matthews obviously has no previous experience as a referee at any level, it’s probably safe to say that most fans would rather have him making the decisions about the roughing the passer calls. Especially with the way the league has been calling the penalty lately.
