The Cleveland Browns remain all-in on Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
However, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be stocking up on their depth chart.
The Browns signed quarterback Jacob Sirmon on Sunday following a tryout at their rookie minicamp this weekend.
Sirmon joins Watson, Jameis Winston, Tyler Huntley, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the roster. That number will undoubtedly be whittled down as preseason camp gets going. The odds are pretty good that Sirmon’s best shot at making the team will be on the practice squad, at least to start.
The QB played for three schools during his college career. After starting his career with the Washington Huskies, he transferred to Central Michigan. With the Chippewas, he played in five games and threw for 734 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. He eventually transferred to play for Northern Colorado where, in 2023, he threw for 1,355 yards on 133 completions with eight touchdowns.
The Browns have had to deal with many injuries and disappointments at the quarterback position in recent years (and many years before that as well). So it can’t hurt to stock up on signal-callers during the offseason and see which ones stick. We’ll see if Sirmon can be one of the two or three to stick it out.
