Joey Bosa’s long national nightmare is over after finally agreeing to a contract with the San Diego Chargers on Monday. The Ohio State defensive end and No. 3 selection in the 2016 NFL Draft signed a four-year, $28.5 million deal.
But Bosa pointed the finger at his overzealous, overprotective mother when it came to inflaming negotiations between him and the Chargers. You might recall that an already tense situation with Bosa unsigned and thus not reporting to training camp became ugly when Bosa’s mother commented that she wished “we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.” In other words, she believed that her son and his representatives should have immediately demanded to be traded after the Chargers drafted him, as Manning did in 2004.

Naturally, Bosa was asked about his mother’s remark at Monday’s press conference announcing his signing with the Chargers. According to ESPN’s Eric Williams, Bosa said that his mother didn’t realize that her comment would be seen publicly and not kept among family and friends when she posted it. But as he put, his mother messed up on Facebook.
Bosa on mom's comments on social media: "What do you expect a mom to do, she loves me." Quipped, "leave it to mom to mess up on Facebook."

That is probably something all of us can relate to, posting a Facebook comment or Twitter direct message and not realizing that it went out to the public. Oops!
Something that many of us might be able to relate to even more, of course, is a parent doing something to embarrass us on social media. Maybe it’s leaving a comment on a particular status update concerning a date or relationship. It could be posting a humbling childhood photo. Or worst of all, it’s a remark that we end up having to explain and perhaps apologize for later on. C’mon, Ma — I’m trying to negotiate a contract here! The guys are gonna laugh at me!
But mothers stick up for their children, right? Even the ones that grow up into ferocious, quarterback-eating defensive ends that become multi-millionaires in the NFL. Joey Bosa’s mother did nothing different than many of our own mothers would do. Actually, let’s all check our respective Facebook pages to make sure our parents aren’t embarassing us right now. C’mon, Ma!
