The Green Bay Packers are currently 4-7 and facing the very real possibility that they could miss the NFL playoffs this year. While Aaron Rodgers has directed a lot of his public ire at wide receivers and his coaches’ playcalling, there’s a growing sense that the MVP quarterback is a big part of the reason why the franchise is struggling. Now, some people are starting to suggest what was considered unthinkable just a few weeks ago.
Colin Cowherd is among those who think that the Packers should consider benching Aaron Rodgers.
“There’s a real argument to be made and I would make it. It’s time to bench Aaron Rodgers,” Cowherd said on Friday following Green Bay’s 27-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Much like when Rodgers was backing up an aging Brett Favre, Cowherd thinks it’s time to see what former first-round pick Jordan Love can do and if he can provide a spark to Green Bay’s anemic offense.
It seems incredibly unlikely that the Packers would ever consider doing so, especially since Rodgers signed a three-year, $150.8 million contract extension before the season, essentially locking him in as their star player for the next few years.
Given how mercurial and sensitive Rodgers can be about criticism and feedback of any kind, he would almost certainly have a very negative reaction to being benched, and that creates a whole drama that Green Bay doesn’t need to add to the mix right now.
