The Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft in hopes that he would turn into the team’s franchise quarterback, but he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.
Now, it sounds like the Colts are bringing in another veteran quarterback with starting experience to compete with him.
According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Indianapolis Colts have decided to sign veteran quarterback Daniel Jones.
“BREAKING: Free agent QB Daniel Jones plans to sign with the #Colts, multiple sources tell @NFLonFOX,” Schultz said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“The #Vikings wanted Daniel Jones back, but the #Colts made a strong push to land the former #Giants’ 1st-round pick. Minnesota has lost Sam Darnold and now Jones in consecutive days,” he added in a follow-up post.
Jones was selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and served as the team’s starting quarterback until he was benched midway through the 2024 season.
After he was benched with the Giants, Jones was then traded to the Minnesota Vikings where he served as the backup quarterback to Sam Darnold, and he’s now on the move again.
Obviously, Jones has a lot of experience as a starter, so it will certainly be interesting to see whether or not he can beat out Richardson and earn the starting job with the Colts.
