The Indianapolis Colts made news on Friday as the team signed a former first-rounder.

Indianapolis signed free-agent defensive tackle Taven Bryan. Bryan joins the Colts after playing with the Cleveland Browns a season ago.

The Colts announced the move in a tweet.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Taven Bryan in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Bryan had starred with the Florida Gators prior to entering the league. He spent four seasons with the Jaguars before playing the 2022 season with Cleveland. He’ll stay in the AFC and play for his third team in six seasons.

Bryan amassed a career-best three sacks last season. He’s posted 8.5 career sacks and 112 combined tackles over his five-year career. He made 17 starts in Jacksonville and then earned 16 starts with Cleveland a season ago.

The Colts are hoping to make some kind of move with this signing. Indy is in a bit of a flux right now as they moved on from veteran quarterback Matt Ryan recently. They’re likely to be in the QB market in the NFL Draft. On defense, they have some pieces, namely former All-Pro DeForest Buckner.

They’ll likely need a lot more than just Bryan, especially since they just traded star cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the Cowboys. Bryan is probably just a depth signing at this point, as was Samson Ebukam.
