The NFL world heard unfortunate news last week about former Alabama standout and current Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson after it was reported that he was shot multiple times in an attempted armed robbery.

Luckily for Robinson, the injuries sustained in the incident occurred to the lower extremities, and the wounds were not life threatening.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera revealed that while Robinson was in “a really good place” following the shooting, there was no timeline for his return to the field.

The team made a decision on Thursday that makes things a bit clearer regarding a potential return for the Alabama product next season.

The Commanders have placed Robinson on the reserve/non-football injury list on Thursday. That guarantees that he will miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, there is at least some hope around the organization that Robinson could be good to go for the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

While obviously Robinson’s long-term health is the team’s top concern moving forward, the Commanders will look to get him as soon as possible considering the impressive training camp that he was having before the incident.

Robinson (seen above in training camp in August) had reportedly supplanted last year’s starting running back Antonio Gibson for the starting role this offseason, and he was well on his way to a large portion of the touches in the Washington backfield.

That may be in jeopardy now following the shooting. But the quicker he can get back on the field, the better for him and the Commanders.
