The NFC East is a notoriously difficult division to stay on top of. Last season, quarterback Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to the division title en route to dismantling the Kansas City Chiefs in Super LIX to bring home the Lombardi Trophy.
However, the division title was up for grabs again this year, with the Dallas Cowboys expected to improve after getting quarterback Dak Prescott back to full health, the New York Giants drafting former Ole Miss Rebels star Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, and rookie Jayden Daniels leading the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship in his rookie season.
Unfortunately, one of those teams has lost its leader under center for at least one week to injury, as they gear up to face the red-hot Chiefs, according to one prominent league insider.
“Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, who suffered a low-grade hamstring strain on Sunday, is going to be out for MNF against the #Chiefs, sources say. Marcus Mariota gets the start,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
Rapoport then followed up with more details.
“While not long-term at all, Jayden Daniels’ hamstring knocks him out vs the #Chiefs. This will be Marcus Mariota’s third start this season.”
It’ll be interesting to see if the Commanders can stay competitive on Monday without the face of their franchise.
