The Washington Commanders entered this season with a lot of excitement after making it to the NFC championship in quarterback Jayden Daniels’ rookie season. There was optimism that the Commanders and head coach Dan Quinn would be able to make an even deeper run this season.
However, things didn’t quite shake out that way. Daniels was injured for much of the season, and the defense struggled mightily, with Quinn assuming play-calling duties on that side of the ball in the middle of the campaign.
Now, it appears that the Commanders are also going in a new direction on the offensive side of the ball, according to one prominent insider.
“The #Commanders and OC Kliff Kingsbury are parting ways, sources say, as the play-caller looks for a new opportunity after meeting with coach Dan Quinn. Kingsbury will be an OC again this cycle, but also should be considered as a HC candidate,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Watch him come back to the raiders now that we have a QB to pick,” one Raiders fan wrote on Twitter.
“Bad news for Daniels Bad news for Quinn too….if he doesn’t take the [Commanders] back to the playoffs next season,” someone else added.
Their offense has overperformed with him for 2 straight years Their defense with a defensive head coach has been downright awful. More than just underperformed, great job Dan Quinn. Love it,” one person wrote sarcastically.
It’ll be interesting to see who the Commanders bring in.
