Is there a topic more tired than Deflategate? It ended up being a two-year saga for Tom Brady and the NFL. Could we see it again with the Giants and Steelers?

Fox’s Jay Glazer reported Sunday that people on the New York Giants were suspicious of the pressure level of the footballs that were used in last week’s game against the Steelers. Apparently the balls were tested during the game and were below the league minimum of 12.5 PSI.

Uh oh.

There isn’t anything more compelling to fans than the inflation levels of a football. It makes for great television and even better written media, and everyone’s eager to see all that again. The NFL tried getting out in front of the accusations with a statement of their own, assuring everyone that there was no controversy.

However, Glazer, being the sleuth that he is, almost immediately got word from the Giants saying that the team still has an issue. Check out the time stamp on the following tweet, only a few minutes after the NFL statement.

Many will speculate that a temperature change could’ve caused these levels and that is how they were below the league minimum. They might have a valid point, considering the temperature did drop after the game started. The Giants wound up losing 24-14, and hurting their playoff chances in the process.

As much as it pains many people to say this, this may be a situation to monitor in the days and weeks ahead, and football storylines may again turn to balls and pressure. Prepare for further full-on discussions of the Ideal Gas Law. What a world we live in.
