Since Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is not expected to return until the middle of the month, the Cowboys have decided to re-sign backup quarterback Will Grier according to Todd Archer of ESPN who covers the Cowboys for the network.

“Cowboys to call up Will Grier from the practice squad to serve as No. 2 QB. If Dak Prescott is not able to play next week, then Grier would have to be signed to the 53 since he is out of standard PS elevations.”

The Cowboys announced last week that Prescott won’t be returning to the field until October 16 which would be against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cooper Rush has played well for Dallas but they didn’t have a backup to Rush if he was injured. Now with the signing of Grier, Prescott can continue to recover and not have to be rushed back.

Grier was on the Cowboys’ roster last year as their third-string quarterback, before that he spent some time with the Carolina Panthers.

Grier being signed just adds some insurance to the Cowboys roster, They were taking a chance by not having someone backup Rush cause if he was injured, who would have played for the Cowboys at quarterback? Who knows but now the Cowboys won’t have to find out.
