Even though Ezekiel Elliott had a down year, the Dallas Cowboys were able to match their 12-5 record from a year before. This was in large part thanks to a huge part of Dallas’ rushing attack emerging as an every-down back. The organization made sure to keep a valuable piece to one of the league’s best-rushing attacks with a huge move on Monday.
Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard had a breakout season last year, recording a career-high 1,007 rushing yards. The Cowboys are making sure that’ll be sticking around with the organization for the foreseeable future, as Dallas placed the franchise tag on the 25-year-old Pollard, according to multiple reports.
The Cowboys tagged Pollard ahead of Tuesday’s franchise tag deadline, meaning he will make $10.09 million in 2023 if the two sides are unable to agree to terms on a longtime extension over the next 24 hours. Dallas was never going to let Pollard walk, even though he suffered a broken leg and a high ankle sprain in the team’s Divisional Round Playoff loss to the San Francis0 49ers.
Now, Dallas will shift its attention to Elliott and his contract. It remains to be seen whether the Cowboys carry both Elliott and Pollard on their roster for next season.
