Larry Allen, a Hall of Fame offensive lineman and a key member of the Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 1990s, died unexpectedly Sunday. He was 52.
ESPN reported Allen died while vacationing in Mexico with his family, but did not report a cause of death.
Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman shared news of Allen’s passing Monday.
“Just received the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved teammate Larry Allen. He was a HOF offensive lineman that dominated opponents regardless of the position played. Off the field, he was a gentle giant that loved his family. Rest in Peace LA.”

A second-round pick by the Cowboys out of Sonoma State in 1994, the powerful Allen helped protect Aikman and opened holes for running back Emmitt Smith on those successful 1990s Dallas teams. He played in 11 Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors six times.
After playing 12 seasons and winning a Super Bowl championship with the Cowboys, Allen finished his career with two seasons in San Francisco.
News of Allen’s death stunned the NFL world, but many paid tribute by posting videos that showed him doing almost surreal things.

Larry Allen is in a small group you can debate for the title ‘best guard in NFL history,’ along with John Hannah, Gene Upshaw, Bruce Matthews, Randall McDaniel, Steve Hutchinson, Alan Faneca and Mike Munchak. If you pick Allen, I won’t say you’re wrong. Rest in peace, big man. https://t.co/QmU6sv8BcA

Rip Larry Allen. Maybe the strongest guy to ever play in the NFL. Here’s him bench pressing 700lbs. (Yes you read that right, 700lbs.) pic.twitter.com/PF7uOBECp9 https://t.co/538Rb8EKJB

Larry Allen was one of the most incredible athletes the NFL has ever seen
Maybe the most dominant run blocker ever, but legitimately insane speed too
Here he was making a chase down tackle out of nowhere pic.twitter.com/vTSPLXrlrm
