If you’re Mike McCarthy right now, Twitter isn’t a very fun place.

The Dallas Cowboys fell to the San Francisco 49ers 19-12 in Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round matchup. One of the NFL’s signature playoff rivalries was renewed and came through with a dramatic game with stout defensive efforts on both sides. Christian McCaffrey scored the lone touchdown for the 49ers, but that was more than enough for them to advance to their third NFC Championship Game in four years.

The Cowboys simply have to wait another year for them to try and get back to the Super Bowl. While the team won its first road playoff game in 30 years, they ultimately have nothing to show for it. The Cowboy defense played excellently, but the offense struggled through poor play and mismanagement. McCarthy bears some of the responsibility for that.

Curiously, the Cowboys punted the ball away after a terrible three-and-out. Our own Comeback Twitter feed said, “Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys chose to punt (and took a lot of time to do so) on 4th-and-10 with just over 2 minutes remaining, trailing by 7. We’ll see if they ever get the ball back!” As it turned out, no, Dallas never got the ball back.

McCarthy was also slammed for whatever it is that he had cooked up for the Cowboys on their final play of the game.

Twitter ripped McCarthy to shreds after the game.
