Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has recently expressed doubts about coming to terms with star edge rusher Micah Parsons on a contract extension. But apparently, those same doubts didn’t apply to another starter on the team, who got the contract extension he was looking for on Sunday.

When asked last week about the possibility of extending Parsons, Jones shared how there are a number of things that can happen on a long-term extension that make deals of this kind difficult for teams to want to agree to. In particular, Jones cited how Parsons could get “hit by a car” any time after being extended by the Cowboys.

“Contracts are four, five years, OK? There’s a lot of water under the bridge if you step out there and do something in the first two or three,” Jones told reporters, according to CBS Sports. “You can get hit by a car, seriously. So there’s a lot to look at over a lot of years that could make a big difference. Have you ever heard of any clubs committing to players and then they didn’t pan out after they committed to them? We have.”

These concerns are obviously incredibly irrational from Jones. At the end of the day, tomorrow isn’t promised for anybody, including any NFL player in the world.

But it turns out, this exact same concern for Jones seemingly wasn’t an issue when it came to a contract extension for Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson, who signed a four-year $52 million extension to stay in Dallas on Sunday.

If agreeing to long-term extensions with players was such a problem for Jones, then why did Ferguson get the four-year deal on Sunday?

Maybe Parsons will end up getting the extension that he wants at some point to stay with the Cowboys. But clearly, Jones was lying about the reasoning the organization and Parsons have not come to a deal. And it is fairly obvious that Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowler, isn’t someone who is being prioritized by the Cowboys organization at the moment.
