Back in 2020, Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury on the artificial turf in Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium. And as a result, it sounds like he would much prefer to play on natural grass as he thinks the playing surface is safer and leads to fewer injuries.
During a press conference this week, Dak Prescott was asked his thoughts on his preferred playing surface, and he made it quite clear that he prefers grass and that the gruesome injury he suffered a few years ago is “a huge part” of why.
“Yeah, I’m 100 percent a grass guy. . . . My injury plays a huge part in that,” Prescott said. “How physical this game is, the way guys are getting tackled, it’s a whole lot safer, in my opinion, on grass than turf.”
In Prescott’s opinion, the league should want the safest playing surface possible to make sure that the star players are on the field and healthy, insuring the best possible product.
“That’s hard on our bodies,” Prescott said. “This is a billion-dollar business and you want the best product on the field all the time.”
The data is pretty clear that natural grass is the safer playing surface and the vast majority of players prefer it. We’ll have to see if the NFL ever makes that move.
