Former Rams quarterback Nick Foles is in need of a job, and after backup Kellen Moore went down with a broken ankle Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys now have an opening.

When asked about the possibility of Dallas signing the free agent to play behind Tony Romo, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Foles could be the man to replace Moore.

“It is what it is,” Jones said Wednesday morning. “We can’t change that, so we’re in the process of looking to bring another veteran-type guy in here to compete with Dak [Prescott] and Jameill [Showers].”

“He’s had success against us for the Eagles, so we see him a lot,” Jones said. “He’s got a big arm. Obviously, when you have a great offensive line like we have and we thing we’re going to have a very solid running game. The  thing you worry about is people trying to suffocate you, and he’s proven he can get the ball down the field. He’s got a lot of attributes that fit well for us.”

Ultimately, the attribute most important to the Cowboys is availability, and Foles is certainly that. Although there are rumors the team is also considering Michael Vick, Josh McKown, Mike Glennon, and Matt Flynn for the roster spot.

However, Foles is arguably the top prize on the market. He still only 27-years-old and just two seasons removed from Pro Bowl campaign with the Eagles. He started 11 games for the Rams last season, but he was far cry from the guy who posted a 27:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2013. He was eventually benched in favor of Case Keenum, which kind of says it all.

Still, this is not a starting gig, and Foles will not have to deal with the pressure of being “the man” while he tries to rediscover the magic from three years ago. The fit makes sense for both parties, and now it is just a matter of time before we see if the two sides can reach an agreement.
