The Dallas Cowboys currently have one kicker on their roster: Tristan Vizcaino. But based on the way the team is talking about him, he may as well just pack his bags and go elsewhere, because it seems extremely unlikely he will be kicking field goals for the Cowboys this season.
This week, Dallas Cowboys executive Stephen Jones was asked about the team’s plan for the kicker position. While he didn’t give much information, it’s pretty clear that the team is looking at plenty of other options aside from Vizcaino.
“We don’t see the guy that we want to trigger on yet. We’ll work through that,” Jones said according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
The plan is for the Cowboys to add a kicker before training camp, but Stephen Jones says they “don’t have anything that’s dialed in, ready to go right now. That’s one of the great things about these leagues, it gives you an opportunity to watch these kickers, just like we found…

Jones made it clear that while Vizcaino is the only kicker on the roster right now, the team is looking at “whoever is not on the team that we can look at” to replace him.
“We don’t have anything that’s dialed in, ready to go right now,” Jones said of the kicker position. “That’s one of the great things about these leagues: It gives you an opportunity to watch these kickers, just like we found [KaVontae] Turpin last year. Certainly Will [McClay] and his staff are doing a great job of evaluating the guys. Got a couple guys that we think are of interest, and see where we end up. . . . Whoever is not on a team that we can look at, we’re looking at to improve.”
This certainly isn’t the first time the Cowboys have made it clear that Vizcaino will not be their starting kicker. Last month, Cowboys special teams coach John Fassel admitted that while Vizcaino is the only kicker on the roster, the team was looking at “anybody else on Earth” for the placekicker position.
“We have Tristan on the roster. Anybody else on Earth who is not on the team right now is under consideration,” Fassel said in May.
Sounds like Vizcaino needs to make other plans.
