The NFL world was stunned Monday night after the tragic injury suffered by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin in the first quarter of their matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest while attempting to stand to his feet and fell back to the turf. He received CPR in front of his teammates before medical staff took him to a Cincinnati hospital where he has been receiving treatment and recovering since.
On Thursday afternoon, doctors revealed that Hamlin started waking up on Thursday morning and even asked the doctors if the Bills won the game. And the doctors revealed that he’s shown good neurological recovery and “overall clinical improvement.” We also learned that if not for the heroic efforts of the Bills’ athletic staff, the situation might not be where it is today.
Friday morning, doctors provided a new round of updates on Hamlin’s condition and the news has to be considered fantastic for his progress,” said the Bills in a statement. “Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar’s breathing tube was removed overnight. He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery. His neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.”

While there’s still a long road ahead for Damar in his recovery, it’s been pretty wonderful to see his progress since the unfortunate incident and the way that the Bills and the NFL world have rallied around him and all those affected.
