The NFL world was shocked by an absolutely horrifying scene on Monday night when Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field and needed CPR on the field and an ambulance to rush him to a nearby hospital. While updates on his condition have been understandably few and far between, Hamlin’s friend and business partner Jordon Rooney has been providing some important updates, and so has the family. And we got an optimistic one on Wednesday.

Speaking with Rooney about Damar Hamlin, ESPN reporter Coley Harvey revealed that “progress appears to be made.”

“Per Jordon and Damar’s family, doctors overnight got promising readings that they had been hoping to see by this morning. Jordon couldn’t go into specifics, but progress appears to be made,” Harvey said in a Tweet.

While this is certainly a hopeful update, Harvey wanted to make sure everyone understands that Hamlin’s situation is still very serious and has “a long way to go in his recovery.”

“Want to be sure I reiterate that although a small, hopeful step appears to have been made, Jordon did mention that Damar still has a long way to go in his recovery. But the family’s optimism remains high and steady as it’s been throughout all of this,” Harvey said in a follow-up Tweet.
