For the past several weeks and months, Damar Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills have been focused on his recovery and overall well-being after a terrifying injury that nearly cost him his life on the field. But now, after a recovery that was nothing short of miraculous, Hamlin is working toward a return to the football field – and things seem to be looking good.

During a press conference on Friday, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beame revealed that Damar Hamlin still has the desire to play and that things are “trending in the right direction” for that to be a reality.

“We’ll get him through all [medical consultations] and then we’ll make sure all of our medical people are hearing all those opinions on each visit and make sure that we’re all on the same page of what it would look like,” Beane said according to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.

Beane said that he expects those consultations to end in April, but acknowledged “that can always change if he sees someone in April that says, ‘Hey, I want you to come back in May.’ But everything has checked out to this point.”

This is obviously a massive announcement from the team, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

If Hamlin does return to the field next season, it’s safe to say he’ll be the favorite for the league’s Comeback Player of the Year Award.
