The Detroit Lions are stringing together some of the most successful seasons in franchise history, having secured the number one overall seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history last year. Head coach Dan Campbell’s ultra-aggressive style has paid dividends for the franchise, and he’s looking to win the first Super Bowl in franchise history.

Last season, the Lions were the number one overall seed in the NFC for the first time ever, and it led to some unavoidable coaching attrition. Aaron Glenn, the Lions’ defensive coordinator for the 2024 season, is now the head coach of the New York Jets, and their 2024 offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, is now the Chicago Bears’ head coach.

However, this season has been a lot to be desired on offense under new offensive coordinator John Morton. Shockingly, Sunday’s win over the Commanders saw the Lions have thier most productive offensive day of the season, accumulating over 500 yards of total offense.

Now,  we know why. Detroit head coach Dan Campbell revealed after the game that he relieved Morton of play-calling duties and took over the role.

“Lions HC Dan Campbell acknowledged to reporters after today’s win in Washington that he took over the offensive play-calling duties from OC John Morton,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL  insider Adam Schefter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“He needs to keep calling the plays because damn that was beautiful,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“You could tell mid-game the play sequencing changed as they were much more aggressive on early downs,” someone else added.

“To me that was a smart move by Dan Campbell. By taking over the offense play calling duties from OC Jhon Morton. I would like to see if the lions will keep dan as play caller for the rest of the season and the playoffs going forward. And who knows could this be a possible key factor for the Lions to get to a Super Bowl? We’ll see,” another person wrote.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Lions’ offense looks down the stretch.
