The New York Giants are facing a rather difficult decision on Daniel Jones. While the Giants are “reportedly” hopeful that they can get a new deal done before next week’s franchise tag deadline, there’s a reason why both sides haven’t been able to come to an agreement at this juncture in time.

The Giants were unable to strike a deal with Jones’ representatives at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this past week, as Jones is reportedly seeking $45 million per year on a multi-year contract extension, Pat Leonard of The New York Daily News wrote on Friday morning.

Still, neither side is giving up as Jones’ agents are reportedly traveling to New Jersey today to meet with the Giants in person, according to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo.

“Possible good sign for the #Giants and Daniel Jones: Sources say Jones’ agents are traveling to Jersey today to meet with the #Giants in person after talking many times at the Scouting Combine. A little more than a day to go before the franchise tag deadline. Still time.”

Garafolo’s update on Monday morning is an encouraging sign, as both sides work towards a possible deal. While Jones is reportedly seeking $12.6 million more than what Giants general manager Joe Schoen could get for the 25-year-old quarterback in 2023 on a $32.4 million non-exclusive franchise tag, New York is still engaged in locking up its franchise signal-caller long-term.

We’ll have to see if the Giants are prepared to make Jones one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
