The 2020 NFL season saw a total of 67 players opt out of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While we saw a number of these players return the following year, many of them did not have a job waiting for them when they came back. That was the case for former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas.

Thomas last played in a game in the NFL in 2019, splitting time between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.

NFL insider Adam Schefter has reported on Sunday that the former Oregon Ducks standout receiver and running back wants to return to the NFL in the 2022 season. Thomas signed with the BC Lions of the CFL back in February but plans to work out at the Oregon pro day on April 1st.

Thomas is most well known around the NFL for his ability as a gadget player who is excellent as a returner with serious speed. There are many in the NFL world who seem to be excited at the idea of a return to the NFL for the speedster.

It will be interesting to monitor how well Thomas is able to run at the upcoming Oregon pro day. If he still has the electric speed that he once had, it is certainly plausible that he could be useful as a returner and in other small roles on an NFL offense.
