When a player earns a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it is widely considered the highest honor a football player can ever earn. Apparently, the Hall of Fame is not enough for NFL legend Deion Sanders.
In a video shared by “Well Off Media” on Friday Sanders blasted the Pro Football Hall of Fame, saying the induction process has become “a free for all.”
“The Hall of Fame ain’t the Hall of Fame no more,” Sanders said in the video. “I love it, I respect it, I admire it. I think all the guys who are inducted are definitely deserving — but it needs to be a different color jacket. My jacket’s gotta be a different color.”
A first-ballot inductee in 2011, Sanders thinks he deserves a higher honor than simply being inducted into the Hall of Fame along with some of “these other heads.”
“There needs to be a starting 11. There needs to be an upper room,” Sanders said. “My head don’t belong with some of these other heads that’s in the Hall of Fame.”
“I’m sorry. I’m just being honest. I’m just saying what y’all are thinking,” Sanders said. “And a lot of y’all Hall of Famers are thinking the same thing. This thing is becoming a free for all now, man.”
Sanders says the Hall of Fame should be reserved for “people that changed the game.”
“That’s what the Hall of Fame is – a game-changer,” Sanders said.
Throughout his 14-year NFL career, Sanders had six first-team All-Pro selections, eight Pro-Bowl appearances, 53 interceptions, and 22 total touchdowns. With those accomplishments, he believes his career is worth more recognition than other Hall of Fame careers.
“I’m just saying what some of y’all are thinking,” Sanders said. “Who votes? Who votes on this?”
