On Thursday night, Houston Texans No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud made his NFL preseason debut for the team. And even though it didn’t quite go according to plan with Stroud throwing an interception on his first drive, it sounds like head coach DeMeco Ryans was still happy with what he saw from his young quarterback.

After the game, Ryans made it clear that C.J. Stroud got some valuable in-game, live reps on Thursday night, and he was pleased with the way he handled it.

“I thought it was good for C.J. to go out and get some live reps, get some real looks,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said according to Pro Football Talk. “I thought he moved around well. Went to the right place with the ball a couple times, and it was good to see him move out of the pocket and try to make some things happen there. We’ve got some things to clean up, up front, and I don’t want him having to move as much.”

Obviously, Stroud is still a young quarterback finding his footing in the league, but there’s a good chance he’s the team’s starting quarterback to begin the season. So it will be interesting to see how he performs.
