Last year, the New Orleans Saints drafted Northern Iowa star offensive lineman Trevor Penning in the first round, but a preseason foot injury derailed his debut season a bit. It sounds like head coach Dennis Allen expects Penning to have success in the league as long as he can remain healthy.

After his preseason foot injury, Trevor Penning did not return to the field until November when he served as the team’s sixth offensive lineman for the remainder of the season before getting his first and only start of the season in Week 18. But it sounds like Allen is excited about his future with the team, saying “the sky’s the limit” if he can remain healthy.

“If we can keep him healthy, the sky’s the limit in terms of what he can do,” Allen said, via Luke Johnson of NOLA.com. “He’s big, he’s physical, I love his play demeanor. He’s athletic for a guy his size. We’re excited about the player.”

We’ll have to see if Penning can stay healthy this season after all as well as how the Saints choose to use him this year and whether or not he can earn a starting spot on the roster during the preseason.
