Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is one of the most controversial players in the NFL.

Players either seem to love him or hate him.

Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Bradley Chubb, who played last season with Wilson and the Broncos, appears to be in the former camp. Chubb went to bat for Wilson while appearing on It Needed To Be Said, a podcast hosted by his new Dolphins teammate Tyreek Hill.

“[Russell Wilson] gets so much flak but it’s crazy because he does the absolute most that he can possibly do to make sure he’s the best he can possibly be,” Chubb said.

“He doesn’t miss a step so when he has a fluke year like this, he’s just got to chalk it up. But it gets so glorified because of who he is, who he’s been, [and] what he’s done. So he’s got to look at it like a nod to who he is as a person too,” Chubb added.

“All the different allegations trying to talk about his [personal] life — he’s just got to sit there and take it. I kind of watched him do that, and it was dope to see how he stayed the same person throughout it all.”

Chubb went on to defend Wilson after Hill joked about the “Broncos Country, let’s ride!” motto that the quarterback continued to use as the losses piled up last season. He said Wilson was “just trying to keep things going.”

In the end, the Broncos traded Chubb to the Dolphins in November as the writing on the wall became clear about their season.
