Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton will look to transform the Broncos organization into a winning team with a winning culture this coming season. And he plans on setting that tone in their first preseason game on Friday against the Arizona Cardinals with a rule that may be bizarre to some.

The Broncos have gone six straight seasons without a winning record, and some may argue that this is due to the lack of focus from the players.

Payton plans on fixing that, and it will seemingly start with some rules for the players on the sideline in their first preseason game.

Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette reported on Monday that there is a list of things that Payton doesn’t want to see in Friday’s preseason opener, which weirdly includes players wearing “Gilligan hats”, otherwise known as bucket hats, on the sidelines when they are done playing.

On paper, it is a pretty weird rule to have for his players, and fans got a good laugh at Payton’s seemingly strict set of rules on social media.

Some fans even suggested that this rule is because former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett, who Payton notably bashed earlier this offseason, has previously worn a bucket hat during press conferences during his tenure with the team.

It’s unclear why exactly Payton cares what someone wears while they are sitting on the sidelines. If it is another subtle jab at Nathaniel Hackett, it would certainly be a petty one…

We have seen coaches like Bill Belichick run a strict team policy in the past and make it work due to on-field success, and it looks like Payton is trying to follow in those footsteps in Denver.
