The New Orleans Saints have found themselves in a bit of a predicament. The Saints’ expected quarterback heading into next season, Derek Carr, has an uncertain availability status heading into the 2025 season.
“The #Saints suddenly have a major QB question: Starter Derek Carr is now dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season, sources say. Carr is weighing options, including the possibility of surgery,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
This is an absolutely brutal break for New Orleans, who took a massive swing on Carr. The enormity of what this means for the Saints was not wasted on ESPN analyst Benjamin Solak.
“Difficult to overstate how bad of a decision it was for the 2023 New Orleans Saints to sign 32-year-old Derek Carr to a 4-year, $150,000,000 contract,” Solak wrote on Twitter.
However, this may be a blessing in disguise for the Saints, as they may have unexpectedly found themselves in the running for one four-time league MVP.
“The #Steelers are reportedly losing PATIENCE with Aaron Rodgers. The #Saints could be a option now with Derek Carr INJURY,” reported NFL rumors this week.
Fans reacted to the possibility of Rodgers joining the Saints on Twitter.
“I’m not a Steelers or Saints fan. Aaron Rodgers should probably retire. But I have a theory. I think if he is going to sign with them he will after the draft. I think he doesn’t want to step into a Kirk Cousins type situation. Get signed, watch them draft a QB & get benched!” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Why would the Saints want Rodgers? They suck worse than the Steelers. Sometimes you’ve got to hit rock bottom before you look up,” another fan added.
“Saints should sign Rodgers they can win that weak division and make playoffs,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Rodgers makes a surprise signing with the Saints.
