The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t had a franchise quarterback since the retirement of franchise legend Ben Roethlisberger. Last season, the Steelers split their starting reps between two veterans, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
Both Wilson and Fields landed in the Big Apple this offseason, with Fields signing with the New York Jets and Wilson with the New York Giants. Rumors of the Steelers drafting former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders have heated up in recent weeks, with Sanders even taking an official visit to Pittsburgh this week.
However, it appears that now another team may be forced to draft Sanders before the Steelers get a chance to.
“The #Saints suddenly have a major QB question: Starter Derek Carr is now dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season, sources say. Carr is weighing options, including the possibility of surgery,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Friday.
The development may force the New Orleans Saints to turn to Sanders for answers, which wasn’t wasted on one Steelers reporter.
“RIP Shadeur Sanders and the Steelers: April 10, 2025 – April 11, 2025,” tweeted Mike Nicastro.
Fans reacted to Nicastro’s memorandum on social media.
“Something tells me the saints like Dart and Millroe more than Sanders,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Not so fast. Aaron Rodgers still has a decision to make, and the NFC South QB situation is the arguably the worst in football,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Steelers respond if Sanders is no longer available by the time they’re on the clock.
